Canton School
The school bell rings across half of Switzerland, Ticino still on holiday
From Monday, the new school year begins in around fifteen cantons. Ticino and Fribourg remain on break: the Ticino restart is set for 31 August.
From this Monday, lessons resume across much of Switzerland. Ticino, however, is still on holiday.
According to the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education, this week classes resume in Appenzell Innerrhoden, Geneva, Jura, Graubünden (except the Moesa valley), Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Nidwalden, Obwalden, Uri, Vaud, Zug and Zurich, as well as in Upper Valais. The French-speaking part of the Canton of Bern also returns to school.
They are not the first to restart. A week ago, school had already resumed in eleven cantons, including the German-speaking part of the Canton of Bern.
Ticino among the last
Still on break are Lower Valais, where lessons resume on 20 August, and above all Fribourg and Ticino. These are the last two cantons to return: Fribourg on 27 August, Ticino on 31 August.
Ticino's school calendar, set each year by the canton, still allows for almost two more weeks of break before classes resume.
