Chase across three motorways, stolen car stopped with a spike strip
Three minors were on board the Renault Captur reported as stolen. The chase began on the A2 at the exit of the Belchen tunnel and ended in Biberist.
Solothurn cantonal police stopped a stolen car with a spike strip on Saturday afternoon. Three minors were in the vehicle: a 15-year-old Swiss girl, a 16-year-old Romanian boy and a 17-year-old Spanish boy. All three were detained.
According to the police, it all began shortly after 2pm. Officers spotted a Renault Captur listed as stolen. The car was on the A2 motorway, coming from the Belchen tunnel and heading towards Egerkingen. Several patrols immediately began a pursuit, aiming to stop the vehicle and check its occupants.
The chase continued from the A2 onto the A1 towards Solothurn, then onto the A5. The driver tried to shake off the officers by leaving the motorway at the Solothurn East junction. The flight ended in Biberist, where police managed to stop the vehicle with a spiked road barrier. A police car was damaged during the operation.
The three occupants, two boys and a girl, were taken to the police station for questioning. Investigations are under way to establish the circumstances of the theft and the role of each of the three young people.
