Lega and UDC edge toward renewed alliance for 2027 cantonal elections
The Lega dei Ticinesi and the UDC have revived talks on a joint list for the 2027 cantonal elections, after a summit both sides called positive. The UDC's leadership will decide on Wednesday evening whether to proceed.
The Lega dei Ticinesi and the UDC could join forces again for the 2027 cantonal elections. On Tuesday the two parties held a summit that revived negotiations over a possible alliance, after a period in which relations between the two parties had appeared more distant. Ticinonews reported the news.
The meeting had been requested by Antonella Bignasca, publisher of Mattino della Domenica, during the Lega's last assembly. Also taking part were the movement's coordinator, Daniele Piccaluga, and Lega representatives Lorenzo Quadri and Norman Gobbi. The UDC was represented by Piero Marchesi, Marco Chiesa, Paolo Pamini and Sergio Morisoli. According to Ticinonews, the summit ended "in maniera positiva" (on a positive note).
UDC leadership to decide on Wednesday
The decision now rests with the UDC's leadership body, which meets on Wednesday evening. It must decide on the possibility of an alliance with the Lega ahead of the 2027 cantonal vote. The meeting's agenda, originally set to discuss a solo list for the party, was changed.
The leadership's decision could reshape the balance of the Ticino election campaign. If the body says "no" to the alliance, the idea will be considered definitively shelved. If the answer is positive, the way will be open for a joint list between the Lega and the UDC.
