The toll from the violent fire that devastated a restaurant with apartments in Thusis, in the canton of Graubünden, overnight between Thursday and Friday, has worsened. Authorities have announced the discovery of the bodies of two people inside the building, which was completely destroyed by the flames. Identification of the two victims has not yet been completed.

The fire had left eight people injured, two of them in serious condition. In the first hours after the fire, five people were reported missing. With the discovery of the two bodies, the number of people still not located has dropped to three.

Search operations hampered by collapse risk

Rescue teams and the specialists in charge of the investigation continue to work at the scene of the disaster. The building, badly damaged by the fire, still poses a serious risk of collapse. This condition significantly complicates search and recovery operations inside the structure, requiring slow and cautious work.

So far, it has only been possible to access part of the building. Rescuers must proceed carefully, constantly assessing the stability of what remains of the building before entering it, in order to continue searching for the people still missing and to secure the area.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues under the direction of the Graubünden public prosecutor's office, in collaboration with the Graubünden cantonal police. Investigators are working to clarify the causes of the fire and to reconstruct precisely how events unfolded inside the building, also seeking to establish possible responsibility.

At this stage, authorities have not provided further details on the identity of the two victims found, nor on the circumstances in which the fire broke out. Many questions therefore remain open about what happened in Thusis, while operations to locate the three people still missing continue without interruption.
