Aargau: shots fired at crowd during rave party

In the early hours of Sunday morning, shots were fired at the crowd of a rave party at the racetrack in Schachen, in the canton of Aargau. Cantonal police report several victims and have sealed off the area.

A large-scale police operation has been under way since 3am this morning in the canton of Aargau. According to police statements to Swiss-German broadcaster SRF, shots were fired at the crowd gathered at the racetrack in Schachen, where a rave party was taking place.

Several people were injured. At this stage there is no information on any fatalities. It is also unclear who fired the shots. According to the authorities, the situation remains confused for now.

Authorities' response

Cantonal police said on the social network X that they had recorded "several victims". Police asked the public to stay away from the affected area. They also asked anyone who was on site at the time to provide investigators with any video or photos of what happened.

Firefighters cordoned off a wide area around the racetrack in Schachen. Numerous rescuers were deployed on site alongside cantonal police officers. A Swiss Army Super Puma helicopter also took part in the operation. The cantonal disaster-response unit was activated as well.

The news was reported in the 7am news bulletin of Swiss Radio and Television on Sunday morning.
