Canton Cantonal elections
Amalia Mirante candidate for Ticino government, tops Avanti con Ticino&Lavoro list
The Lugano-based lawmaker and economist will lead the Avanti con Ticino&Lavoro list for the 2027 cantonal elections. The announcement was made on Sunday in Villa Luganese, before about 250 people.
Amalia Mirante formalised her candidacy for the Council of State on Sunday, ahead of the 2027 cantonal elections. The announcement was made before about 250 people, gathered in Villa Luganese for a rally of the Avanti con Ticino&Lavoro movement.
The Lugano-based lawmaker and economist will head the list with which the movement will run in the elections. The full slate of candidates will only be officially unveiled at the end of September.
"Sarà una lista forte" ("It will be a strong list"), Mirante told those present. The lawmaker recalled that the movement did not take part in running the current cantonal government, and therefore does not have to defend either its mistakes or its internal balances. She explained that this starting position allows the movement to propose real change, without vested interests or outstanding scores to settle. The stated goal, she added, is to put work, competence, concreteness and respect for citizens back at the centre.
The movement's goals
Avanti con Ticino&Lavoro has set itself two goals, according to a statement released after the rally. The first is to win a seat on the Council of State. The second is to secure enough representation in the Grand Council to form its own parliamentary group.
With Mirante's candidacy, the movement has made public the first name on its team ahead of the renewal of the cantonal authorities. The rest of the list remains reserved for now, pending its official presentation.
