Gobbi case: two police officers risk dismissal
Three cantonal police officers are under investigation for allegedly leaking confidential information about the Gobbi case to two members of parliament, a journalist and an insurance agent. Two of them reportedly risk being dismissed.
Three cantonal police officers are under investigation in connection with the Gobbi case, the incident that occurred in the Leventina valley involving state councillor Gobbi. The officers are suspected of having gathered and disclosed information covered by official secrecy regarding the case.
According to investigators, this information was allegedly intended for four people: a journalist, an insurance agent and two members of the cantonal parliament, Matteo Pronzini and Fiorenzo Dadò. Pronzini and Dadò had filed, in early 2024, two separate parliamentary questions on the transparency of how the case was handled.
The investigation originated from inquiries into one of the three officers over a radar device damaged by gunfire in Monteggio. An examination of his phone revealed several contacts with Pronzini. On 7 February 2024, before the Gobbi case became public, the officer is said to have written to him that it was “Roba che scotta. Insabbiato” (“A sensitive matter. Covered up”). The same officer allegedly contacted Pronzini again on the eve of the parliamentary question Pronzini filed.
A similar suspicion concerns contacts linked to the question signed by Dadò. In this case, however, checks ordered by attorney general Andrea Pagani did not produce any concrete evidence.
The three officers have denied the allegations. They are presumed innocent.
The hearings
In recent weeks, the attorney general also questioned Pronzini and Dadò as persons with knowledge of the facts. Both denied having received confidential data from the officers. The public prosecutor's office, contacted by RSI, declined to comment.
Already in July, the journalist and the insurance agent had been questioned, also as persons with knowledge of the facts. The latter, according to the prosecution, had allegedly been contacted to obtain information about the incident involving Gobbi. He subsequently became a defendant, but Pagani eventually closed the case against him with a discontinuance order.
The investigation against the three cantonal police officers remains open. Two of them have reportedly been told they could be dismissed.
