Young Lega members call for Fabrizio Sirica to resign

The demand follows a speed-camera reading: the Socialist co-president was recorded at 104 kilometres per hour on a road limited to 50. Sirica said the incident happened on a country road away from populated areas.

The Young Lega members are calling for Fabrizio Sirica to resign. They made the demand in a statement issued on Monday morning. Their intervention concerns the speeding offence committed by the Socialist Party co-president.

According to Tio, a speed camera recorded Sirica travelling at 104 kilometres per hour on a section limited to 50. The Young Lega members consider the incident serious. They believe it should also have political consequences.

Sirica said the incident happened on a country road away from populated areas, where more people would normally be present. The Young Lega members reject that explanation. In their view, the type of road does not alter the issue of safety or the responsibility carried by someone holding political office.

The statement also refers to previous cases involving Lega politicians. According to the Young Lega members, Sirica had demanded political consequences on those occasions. They argue that the same standard should now apply to the Socialist co-president.

The resignation request is presented as a matter of consistency and equal treatment for politicians from different parties. The group says rules and political responsibility should be applied in the same way regardless of party affiliation.
