Canton Heatwave
MeteoSwiss raises the heat warning back to level four until Friday
Below 600 metres, in the Sottoceneri and central Ticino, highs of up to 36 degrees and overnight lows around 21 to 22 are expected. A change is possible after mid-August.
MeteoSwiss has raised the heat warning for Ticino back to level four. The measure stays in force at least until Friday evening.
The warning covers areas below 600 metres of altitude, in the Sottoceneri and in the regions of central Ticino. Expected maximum temperatures reach 36 degrees. Overnight minimums are unlikely to fall below 21 or 22 degrees.
It is the return of a pattern already seen seven days ago. The week now starting closely follows the one just ended, with values of the same order by day and by night. For the summer of 2026 it is one more episode of this kind.
When it will end
The question that accompanies every new warning concerns duration. The latest forecasts hint at a change from next weekend.
The picture depends on the African anticyclone that has been dictating terms over Europe for months. After mid-August its grip should finally loosen. Whether this week's heatwave really is the summer's last, however, will only become clear in the coming days.
