The new bridge at Visletto, in the Vallemaggia valley, was inaugurated today, Saturday, after the completion of reconstruction works. The structure replaces the bridge destroyed by the devastating flooding that hit the valley in the summer of 2024. Since 4:30pm, traffic has been able to cross Visletto on the new bridge again.

The bridge is more than 150 metres long and consists of a continuous structure with five spans, using a mixed steel-and-concrete design. For reasons of water safety, it was built further upstream than the old route. This shift improves the structure's protection against erosion.

The construction was entrusted to the Consorzio Vislè, chosen for the technical quality of the project and its integration into the valley's landscape. The bridge cost around 10.5 million francs, an amount financed entirely by the canton of Ticino.

The day of the inauguration

The ceremony was attended by state councillor Piero Marchesi, head of the Department of the Territory, and Cevio's mayor, Wanda Dadò. Speaking to RSI's Radiogiornale, Dadò called the day "storica per Cevio" (historic for Cevio). The mayor said that residents "ha visto tutto il percorso, perché tanti erano qua a vedere la ricostruzione man mano che questo nuovo ponte cresceva" (followed the whole process, as many people were there to watch the reconstruction progress and this new bridge grow).

The new bridge restores to Visletto and the upper Vallemaggia valley a road link that the flooding had cut off a year and a half earlier, causing serious damage across the region.
